Day of Departure

Hello, it's Hiro.

It's about 1:30 AM and I'm at ZBags' apartment in Sunnyside, Queens getting ready for pull-out bed. I'm feeling a lot of excitement, and a bit of nervousness about our trip to India. We depart in about 10 hours.

I started this blog for various reasons, most of them obvious (i.e., for friends to read, for a personal record, and so forth).

So here's the overview - Peggy and I are traveling to India for 7 weeks and 11 weeks, respectively. It's our first time in the country. We will spend the first 5 days in Goa (just us), then the next 5 days in Mumbai (with Anu Rana, our beloved friend from MAIP 08 (one of many beloved friends), then the rest of the time based in Delhi (with weekend trips to surrounding cities such as Agra, where the majestic and stately Taj Mahal is). In Delhi, we will volunteer with a partner of the International Volunteer Headquarters (IVHQ).

With IVHQ, Peggy will work with others in the women empowerment project, and I will work with slum children in the slum children project. She may, for example, work with them to create leather goods and other sewn products. I may, for example, teach the children some basic advice on how to stay clean and healthy. We don't know the details yet. IVHQ keeps it secret (or perhaps they just don't have the details planned yet).

That's it for now, please excuse any sloppiness here because a few hours ago I had this neon blue drink called "Blue Crush" (like that bad surfing movie from the 90s), "Texas-size", meaning large, at Dallas BBQ (aka, to Dallas BBQ only, "The Q", lol).

Goodnight my friends. Next post will come from India.

  1. HAHAH The Q. When are they going to activate the facial projectors so that we can watch Blue Crush? And why are we still missing $15?!
