We arrived at Pune at night, at our hotel in Koregaon Park, a posh neighborhood in Pune, where Mumbai residents come every now and then for a retreat. Actually, there is an area in Mumbai where many private cab companies offer cheap rides from Mumbai to Pune. Anu, Peggy, and I payed about 500 rupees each for the one-way, i.e., about $12 for a two hour taxi ride.
At night we went to some club, it was ridiculously swanky inside, and they played techno-dance music all night. We got expensive (even by U.S. standards) drinks and had a good time with Anu and her friends whom we met in Pune.
Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous
Saturday, 6/18
A relaxing Saturday. We grabbed a delicious brunch with Anu and hit the streets and shops. Along our way, we passed by the Osho Ashram, which looked like a guarded camp for a cult. Perhaps that’s exactly what it is. I don’t know much about this culture, but I shall read about it sometime.
Later, we went to a gorgeous hashish restaurant. I felt like a Muslim Prince, sitting on my patterned red carpet and gazing up at the canopy which hung what appeared to be magic carpets. It was a deeply calming experience. I’d love to go back.
